Hi, friends! I hope you’re having a great weekend. The weather is unseasonably fantastic here in Indy and is allowing me to to extend my outdoor writing season much further into the fall than usual. I hope the you have good weather in your neighborhoods, too.
So, yesterday, I turned 60. It was a day that, for decades, I had my doubts about ever seeing. You see, my dad and his only sister died in their fifties. My mom’s only bother passed away in his fifties, as well. I got it into my head early in life that genetics were against me.
No need to worry about whether I’d make to 60, eh?
So, turning the page to a new decade got me to thinking about other recent changes in my life. I changed day jobs last December. I changed home and auto insurance carriers a couple of years ago, a saved a bunch of cash in the process. I even changed my primary Internet browser a few months ago and don’t miss the pop up ads.
I know that last week I talked about not being afraid of making a change. While reminding ourselves that it’s never to late to start something new may have similar vibes to not being afraid of change, I still think it’s different.
My writing journey began at age 45.
Julia Child wrote her first cookbook at age 50.
Grandma Moses didn’t start painting until she was in her sixties.
Peter Mark Roget was in his seventies when he compiles his lists of word into what became Roget’s Thesaurus.
Gladys Burrill ran her first marathon at age 86.
So, if you want to try something new, go for it. Don’t let your age be a deterrent. At some point in the future, I plan on learning to play the ukulele. Not sure when, exactly, but that’s okay.
Because this dog isn’t too old to learn a new trick. And neither are you.
How about it? Anything new you want to try? Or any things you’ve recently changed? Tell me about it and until next time, bubbles up!
Happy birthday in advance! Good days ahead!
Happy belated birthday! Congrats on making it to another decade. You broke the age curse. Huzzah! My father died at an early age. Ever since then, I’ve lived life to the fullest because you never know when your time is up. One of the things I’ve tried to accomplish this year is to be slow to anger, to not let little things bother me. I’m embracing the curves of life. Overall, it’s been pretty successful. It’s a conscious effort every single day. Some days are harder than others.
